Job Description:
Baker’s Transit seeks compassionate and reliable drivers to provide essential non-emergency medical transportation services for seniors and wheelchair users throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. As a driver, you’ll operate specialized lift vans ensuring safe, dignified transportation of clients to and from medical appointments. The ideal candidate possesses a clean driving record, demonstrates strong customer service skills, and can safely assist clients with mobility challenges, including the ability to help wheelchair users. The role requires physical capability to assist clients, professional communication skills, and a commitment to safety and reliability.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Safe operation of vehicles (includes proper use of wheelchair tie down, use of lift, etc.) while transporting participant to appointments.
- Ensure participant and vehicle safety (van maintenance, pre-trip inspections, use of seatbelts, body mechanics, transfer training, and wheelchair safety).
- Provides timely and safe transport of participants as scheduled or requested (between residence & appointments)
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities):
- Licensed California Driver with good driving record (Class C Driver License).
- Ability to safely operate transportation vehicles. Have a basic understanding of vehicle mechanics.
- At least one-year of customer service experience or one year of driving experience (client transport).
- Flexibility and creativity
- Understands and carries out oral and written directions. Understands and speaks basic English well.
- Familiarity with traffic routes and driving regulations in the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Ability to push, pull, lift, move at least 100 pounds.
- Positive attitude, adaptable, good problem-solving skills, good judgement
**Please note: Prior experience as a non-emergency medical transport driver, elderly care, or transportation services is preferred.
Job Schedule:
- Any eight-hour shift between 6am and 7pm (weekend & holidays may be required)
- Work up to four days a week & eight hours per day (20-30 hours per week)
